WELCOME BACK

Hello and welcome to Hammond High Magnet School. I am so excited for the 2021-2022 school year to begin. My name is Kristin Clemons and this is my 3rd year back at HHMS. After graduating from Hammond High myself, I spent the last 14 years building my nursing career. I graduated from nursing school in December 2008 where I started off working as a floor nurse in the psychiatric field, and I eventually became the Assistant Director of Nursing at Greebriar Hospital in Covington for 4 years. I made a change in early 2012 and began working for North Oaks Hospital in many different areas. I was given several oppurtunities to grow in those areas, including education for other nurses. After 7 years, I made the decision to come back to my "home" at Hammond High to begin teaching high school. I am so thankful I have decided to take this journey, and look forward to getting to know each of my students.

WHAT DO I TEACH?

At HHMS I teach 2 different courses. The first course is Allied Health. It is a broad course that will introduce different health care systems, health care careers, medical terminology, and diseases associated with each body system. Students can take this class in their 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade year. The second class that I teach is the Medical Assistant class. This class is offered to students their senior year, and will require them to have previously taken medical terminology. We follow the National Healthcare Association guidelines in preparing for the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant certification exam. Students will learn not only the materials needed to pass their exam, but they will have hands on training to work in the medical field onces they have graduated. We will learn things such as performing vital signs, performing blood draws, performing EKGs, and much more. We do alot of hands of activities, we watch alot of surgery videos, and explore many areas of the human body. I am so excited to share my love of nursing, knowledge of the human body and all the different aspects of health care.
