  Dear Parents,
      
  

           I would like to welcome you and your child to Ponchatoula Junior High School.  I look forward to a year filled with exciting and challenging learning experiences. Please consider this letter as an overview of the policies and
 procedures present in my classroom. The Tangipahoa Parish Handbook and teacher's class procedures are
 being introduced to your child. In order to meet my goals for this year, I need your help. My wish is to stay
 in close contact with you throughout the school year. I want to keep you well informed of your child's progress. 
I ask that you make a special effort to meet me and to conference with me at least once a six weeks. I also
 ask that you discuss acceptable school behavior with your child because I will not tolerate disruptive students.       

 If you and I work together, inappropriate behavior and disrespect should not be a problem.

  During the school year, the Read 180 Dept. will focus on various reading and writing skills.

 
  Again, I look forward to a successful year.  Together, I'm sure we can achieve our goals.

Classroom Rules

  1. Be in the classroom in your assigned seat when the tardy bell rings.
  2. Bring all necessary materials to class daily.
  3. Follow all directions and procedures.  
  4. Respect yourself, your teacher, and your classmates.

 

Consequences:

  1. Verbal Warning
  2. Assigned punish work
  3. If the assigned punish work is not returned the FOLLOWING DAY, it will be doubed, and  the teacher will notify the parent by telephone or email.  If it is still not returned, the appropriate consequence will be initiated.
  4. Referrals will be sent to disciplinarian's office.

 

Rewards:

  1. Verbal Praise
  2. PBIS points
  3. Teacher selected treats/activities
  4. Positive note to parents

 

  

 Supplies

  earbuds with mic.
  2 pkg. of pencils with erasers  

  1 pkg. of colored pencils

  2 jumbo Clorox wipes

  1 pk. of 3x5 index cards

  Expo markers( pastel colors)

  Kleenex (large box) & Paper towel ( jumbo roll)

 

Entering the Classroom: Place bookbags in designated area, gather necessary materials, and begin Bell work quietly. If you have to sharpen your pencil or review the make-up drawer, you may do so at this time. Once you have entered the classroom, you may not leave. 

 You must bring all required materials to class daily.


Class Participation
: Class participation is very important. It is imperative that you attend class regularly.


Heading:
On every assignment, including punish work, you must use the proper teacher heading.  


Classroom Conduct:
Students must stay in their seat and ask for permission to speak unless otherwise directed by the teacher.  Classroom behavior that interferes with either the teacher’s ability to conduct the class, and/or, a student’s ability to benefit from the instruction is not tolerated and will cause the student to be referred for disciplinary action.


Cheating:
Cheating of any form will cause the student(s) to receive a zero and a minor referral. The parent will be notified by phone call or email.  Examples of cheating: Copying assignments, talking during testing, cheat sheets, and electronic cheating (cell phones).


Food in Classroom
: Food, drinks, and gum are not allowed in class, unless permitted by teacher.


How I will get your attention:
I will raise my hand and say, “Give me five” when I want your attention. You will raise your hand to acknowledge that you see me, and stop all other activities (work, talking, etc.)

 

Dismissal: The bell does not dismiss you – I do. Do not begin packing-up until directed by the teacher. Pick-up all trash around your desk and throw it away before you exit the class. All students must be seated and quiet to be dismissed by the teacher.

 

Absences and Make-up Work: When you are absent, you are responsible for any missed work. You should copy the notes you missed from another student in the class and check the Missed Assignment folder. You must turn in all make-up work in a timely manner. I will not remind you to check the drawer or to turn in your work. Please see your handbook for the parish policy on absences and make-up work.

Homework: Homework will be assigned as needed.  I encourage you to always complete your assignments. If you are absent, excused or unexcused, it is your responsibility to obtain any assignments missed. 

Tardiness: Tardiness will not be tolerated.  It is a disruption to the class. Each tardy is recorded. If you are tardy, you are still responsible for all assignments and you will not receive any extra time.  I will decide whether or not a tardy is excused.

Progress Reports: The school will issue progress reports each six week period. 

 

 Exams: You will be given notice prior to a test. Test dates will be posted on the board and written in student's handbook prior to the test.  If you are absent after the test date has been announced, you are still responsible for taking the test.  If you are absent on the day of the test, you must take the test on the first day you return to school, unless you have an excused absence.

Punish Work: All work will be due at the beginning of class following the day your work was assigned.

 

Bathroom Privileges – The teacher determines if a student has a restroom emergency.

 

Language: Students must use appropriate language at ALL times within my classroom – whether you are speaking directly to me or to your PEERS.
